REMIDA, established in 1996 in Reggio Emilia, is a cultural project on the creative re-use of the discarded materials.
REMIDA promotes the idea that discard materials, imperfect products and otherwise worthless objects bring some “beauty”, are able to prompt considerations and can be educational resources.
The materials of REMIDA are supplied by ca. 200 companies that deliver wastages, defective materials, remainder funds or production surplus destined for disposal, which the Centre recovers and proposes as a subject to investigate.
The Center is visited every year by more than 3,000 people among teachers, artists, students, administrators and interested people coming from all over the world. It organizes meetings with schools of every grade, professional development courses and events with the city.
REMIDA is a project of the Istituzione Preschools and Infant Toddler Centres of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and of Iren Emilia. It is ruled by the Fondazione Reggio Children – Centro Loris Malaguzzi and is supported by a network of volunteers sharing and fostering its aims.
There are many cultural realities around the world that share the value of the REMIDA project, for this reason the REMIDA network was born: today it consists of 18 centers (9 in Italy and 9 worldwide).
